The Day The Earth Stood Still depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C. hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, adapting a false identity and living at a boarding house where he meets a smart woman with a conscience and her inquisitive son. Both mother and son soon find themselves embroiled in the complex mystery of Klaatu, his message and the government's witch hunt for the alien.

Klaatu barada nicto!! , November, 26, 2008

This classic film is one of my all-time favorites. The image of Gort was the star of many of my childhood nightmares. I fondly remember Sam Jaffe's character, the awestruck Professor wanting to ask Klaatu 'a couple of thousand questions.' Let's hope the remake (12/08) does this version justice.

A chance given. , November, 22, 2008

.So I was watching the last lines of the movie "The universe grows smaller every day, and the threat of aggression by any group, anywhere, can no longer be tolerated. There must be security for all, or no one is secure. Now, this does not mean giving up any freedom, except the freedom to act irresponsibly"...and I'm thinking OBAMA has landed!

Sci-fi at it's best , November, 10, 2008

Not a sci-fi movie for todays generation which is a shame. Gore, violence and explosions traded in for acting, atmosphere and great story telling. One of my favorite movies. And as for the "editorial review", Gort didn't destroy Washington. Get it right and get this movie.
